SITUATION

The Orbi Group is one of the largest construction and development companies in Georgia. In 2016 it commenced the development of a new hotel complex with two skyscrapers boasting 5,000 hotel rooms and apartments in Georgia’s Black Sea resort city Batumi. The multi-million dollar Twin Tower hotel is the sixth largest in the world in terms of number of rooms and the complex also features several restaurants, retail and entertainment areas, indoor and outdoor pools, a wellness center, medical centers, spa center, garden, children’s playground, conference halls and more.

The Orbi Twin Tower hotel required a surveillance system to cover the entire complex, to provide for the security of its residents. To ensure seamless and uninterrupted security across a network of 791 IP cameras, the highest quality networking equipment was a must.

SOLUTION

Ethernet Switches are a crucial element in any surveillance installation, as they support the transmission of video streams, control the network traffic to avoid delays and loss of data, and also offer a higher level of security.

The Orbi Group has deployed PoE Switches over 47 floors, each PoE switch is connected to the main Server Room by fiber optic cables. In the main server room, they chose to deploy three pieces of Edgecore's Layer 3 switches. Layer 3 switches (ECS4620-28F x 2, ECS4620-28T x 1) are installed at the core of the network in full redundant mode with VRRP configuration. A firewall ensures that up to 1G of traffic can flow at wire speed through to the Internet. A 10G backbone has been deployed to ensure higher bandwidth that works in a non-blocking mode across the hotel.

The three switches are connected by 10G SFP+ ports and there are 4 VLANs for the many IP cameras. Subdividing the LAN into smaller segments, or VLANs, increases overall reliability, security, and performance, and makes the network easier to maintain.

Edgecore's ECS4620 series switches bring continuous availability, enhanced security, and advanced QoS to the network edge, while maintaining simplicity of management. The stability and high quality of the network meets the customer’s needs and has created a secure environment for the hotel's residents. In short they provide:

Continuous Availability: ensures a faster recovery from failed links and enhances overall network stability and reliability.

Comprehensive QoS: offers advanced QoS for marking, classification, and scheduling to deliver best-in-class performance video traffic.

Enhanced Security: with port security limits, IEEE 802.1X port-based or MAC-based access control, DHCP snooping, IP Source Guard, ACLs, private VLANs, DAI, SSH and SSL/HTTPS providing secure network management.
