EPS Global team with partners at ECOC 2026 in Málaga
Event Recap

ECOC 2026 (European Conference on Optical Communication), Málaga

Earlier this month our team joined the optical networking community at ECOC 2026 in Málaga. We were based at the Coherent booth, where Barry McGinley gave a tour of the show floor on day one. John Lynch, Mark Downey, Melina Beck, André Grzenia and Kunal Dey met partners and customers to talk optics, coherent transceivers, open networking and AI data centre builds. Thank you to everyone who stopped by — if we missed you, our team is always happy to pick up the conversation.

One QSFP, 32 Wavelengths: Coherent Takes POLS Across the Full C-Band

Coherent's Pluggable Optical Line System (POLS) now covers the full C-band. Paired with 800G ZR/ZR+ optics, it carries up to 32 wavelengths and 25.6Tbps over a single fibre pair, on links from 2km to 200km. There are no amplifier shelves to install and no lengthy commissioning to work through — you plug it in and it configures itself. For teams building out data centre interconnect, that means faster deployments with far less optical line complexity.

From Rack to Ready: Building AI Networks

An empty rack doesn't train anything. Getting from bare metal to a working AI cluster means a long chain of decisions: fabric topology, switch silicon, NOS, optics, cabling and congestion control. Each one quietly sets the ceiling on how hard your GPUs actually get worked. Our new playlist brings together unboxings and interviews covering the hardware, software and design decisions that turn raw compute into a network that performs.

Unboxing the Edgecore AIS800-64D for AI and ML Fabrics

Building an AI cluster means designing for bandwidth first, and the Edgecore Networks AIS800-64D is built for exactly that. From its 3000W power supplies to its 800G port density, the platform is aimed at the demands of modern AI and machine learning fabrics. Barry McGinley takes an in-depth look at the hardware from our switch lab, covering the build, the port layout and where the AIS800 series fits as data centers move to higher speeds. Worth a watch if you are scoping an AI fabric and weighing your switching options.

Why AI Infrastructure Is Becoming More Distributed

Tim Lieto of MaiaEdge sees two forces driving AI infrastructure out of the single mega-site. First, power: capacity is limited, so new AI sites go wherever power is available. Second, inference: these workloads need to sit closer to the people using them. The result is more sites, more edge locations and more connectivity between them — a challenge MaiaEdge and EPS Global AI are tackling together.

EPS Global Leadership Cycles for Charity on Both Sides of the Atlantic

Earlier this month, members of the EPS Global leadership team took on cycling challenges in Ireland and the US. CEO Colin Lynch and Head of Sales EMEA John Lynch completed a 200km, two-day ride from Kenmare, climbing Moll's Gap, the Gap of Dunloe and the Healy Pass in aid of Belvedere Youth Club. EPS Global has sponsored this annual event for many years, and the group raised €15,635, beating its fundraising target for the club's work with young people in Dublin's North Inner City. In Boston, VP of Sales Americas Alan Fagan rode 61 miles in memory of his brother Ken, raising funds for the Irish Cancer Society and The Melanoma Research Foundation.

Reforestation in Querétaro: Sustainability in Action

For several years, our team in Querétaro, Mexico has taken part in a local reforestation project. Most recently, the team joined a reforestation day at Parque Palmares, in collaboration with the Government of Querétaro and local residents, bringing along family, colleagues and friends. It is a reminder that our commitment to sustainability is not simply words on a page, but meaningful action within the communities we work in. General Manager Carlos Rodriguez and his team continue to lead by example, turning that commitment into real, lasting impact.

EPS Global India at the AIT–ANANDIT Box Cricket Cup

Our team in India recently sponsored and played in the AIT–ANANDIT Box Cricket Cup, a corporate tournament run by the AIT Association. The tournament brought together teams from across the local technology and business community. Between matches, it gave our team a great chance to meet new people and build connections locally. Thank you to the AIT Association for organising the event and hosting our team, and to everyone who took part.
