Why 400G ZR+?

600km reach ZR+

400G ZR+ builds upon the 400G ZR standard by enabling transmissions over longer distances, potentially up to several hundred kilometers, without the need for inline optical amplification, such as Open WDM line systems.

This is particularly useful for service providers and enterprises looking to interconnect data centers that are geographically dispersed but not so far apart as to require a full-fledged long-haul optical transmission system, and offers massive CapEx savings.
The "+" in 400G ZR+ typically indicates enhancements such as:

  1. Increased reach: Potentially up to 400-1000 km, depending on the implementation and fiber conditions.
  2. Higher performance: Signal integrity can be maintained over longer distances.
  3. Flexibility: Adjustable power and performance parameters to optimize for specific network scenarios.

What sets Coherent's 400G ZR+ optics apart from competing solutions is that they operate at 0dBm transmit power, the optics are programmable to suit a wide range of networks and applications, there's a choice of line rates and choice of form factors CFP2 and QSFP-DD.
